It is designed to be simple, low-cost, and accessible, especially for everyday users and local businesses.

Who can use BritishPay?
Anyone in the UK with a mobile phone can sign up. Businesses can also use BritishPay to accept payments.

 

Is BritishPay a bank?

No. BritishPay is not a bank.
Your money is held as e-money and safeguarded with our regulated banking partner. Funds are protected and kept

separate from company funds.

Is BritishPay regulated?

 

Is my money safe?
Yes — your funds are safeguarded by regulated Banks, meaning your money is always kept separate and secure.

 

Can I sign up with just my phone number?

Yes ✅
You can sign up using your mobile number and start using BritishPay right away.

 

Can I see my wallet balance without verification?

Yes ✅
After phone number verification, you can see your wallet balance inside the app.

 

What can I do without identity verification (KYC)?

Without verification, you can:

  • ✅ Send money to other BritishPay users (within limits)

What can I NOT do without verification?

Without verification, you cannot:

  • ❌ Withdraw money to a bank account

  • ❌ Get a UK account number and sort code

Why do I need to verify my identity?

Identity verification is required to:

  • Protect users

  • Prevent fraud

What happens after I complete verification?

Once verified, you can:

Using BritishPay​​

How can I add money to my BritishPay account?

You can add money to your BritishPay account using a bank transfer to your personal BritishPay account number for free.

Each verified user receives a dedicated UK account number, allowing you to transfer funds directly from your bank.

 

Are there fees to send money?
No. Sending money to friends, family, or businesses is free. Small fees apply for withdrawals and card top-ups.

Do I need a bank account to use BritishPay?
No. You can receive and spend money with just your BritishPay wallet.   

 

Why can’t I add money using debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay?

BritishPay currently supports bank transfer top-ups only.

Card-based top-ups (including Apple Pay and Google Pay) require additional card-scheme approvals and regulatory processes. To ensure a secure, compliant, and reliable launch, these options are not available at this time.

We may introduce additional top-up methods in the future.

​Do I get my own bank account with BritishPay?

Yes.
After successful identity verification (KYC), you will receive a personal UK account number linked to your BritishPay wallet. You can use this account to:

  • Receive money

  • Add funds via bank transfer

  • Withdraw funds to your bank

Can I withdraw my money anytime?

Yes, withdrawals are available after verification, subject to applicable daily and monthly limits.

BritishPay may apply limits to help prevent fraud and meet regulatory requirements.

 

 

Why do withdrawal and transfer limits exist?

Limits are in place to:

  • Protect users from fraud

  • Prevent misuse of the platform

  • Comply with banking and regulatory requirements

Limits may vary based on account type, verification level, and usage history.

 

 

Can I send money to other BritishPay users?

Yes.
Verified personal users can send money to other BritishPay users within daily and monthly limits.

Do merchants need to verify before using BritishPay?

Yes ✅
All merchants must complete full verification (KYB) before using the merchant app.

 

Why is merchant verification mandatory?

Merchant verification is required because merchants:

  • Accept payments from the public

  • Handle higher transaction volumes

  • Must meet regulatory and anti-fraud requirements

This helps keep the platform safe for everyone.

 

What can merchants do after verification?

Verified merchants can:

  • ✅ Accept QR payments

  • ✅ Accept Tap-to-Pay (NFC) payments

  • ✅ Receive customer payments

  • ✅ Withdraw funds to their business bank account

How can my business accept BritishPay?
Businesses can accept QR code payments, NFC tap-to-pay, or wallet transfers directly via the BritishPay Merchant app.

How do merchant withdrawals work?

Merchants can withdraw funds only to a verified business bank account held in the same legal name as the registered merchant.

Withdrawals to personal or third-party bank accounts are not permitted.

Are there limits for unverified users?

Yes. For security and compliance, unverified users have lower transaction and balance limits.

How do I register in the BritishPay app?

Getting started is simple: Download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Open the app and select your preferred language. Sign up with your mobile number and email address. Verify your identity by entering the one-time code (OTP) sent to your phone/email. Complete KYC (Know Your Customer) by providing your name, date of birth, and uploading ID when prompted. Choose your role: Personal User → for wallet, sending, and receiving money. Merchant → for accepting QR payments and withdrawals. Once approved, your BritishPay wallet is ready to use. You can top up, send, scan, and withdraw instantly.

What is BritishPay and how does it work?

What solutions does BritishPay offer me as a business customer?

BritishPay gives you two simple ways to accept customer payments directly on your phone: QR Code Payments – generate a code in the app for your customer to scan. Tap-to-Pay (NFC) – customers just tap their phone or contactless card against your device (no extra hardware needed). Instant settlement into your BritishPay wallet, with same-day withdrawal to your bank (0.60% fee). Transparent fees: 0.6% per transaction. No monthly rental, no hidden charges.

How do customers pay me in BritishPay?

With BritishPay, you don’t need multiple terminals or extra steps — both payment options are available at the same time: Enter the amount in the merchant app. The app displays both a QR code and NFC Tap-to-Pay option on the same screen. The customer chooses how to pay: Scan the QR code with their BritishPay app (NFC will automatically turn off). Tap their contactless card or phone (QR will automatically turn off). You’ll see instant confirmation and the funds in your wallet. This makes checkout fast, flexible, and simple for every customer.

When will I receive the payments for successful transactions?

Instant Settlement: As soon as a customer pays you (via QR or Tap-to-Pay NFC), the money appears instantly in your BritishPay wallet balance. Bank Withdrawals: You can withdraw funds from your wallet to your linked bank account anytime. Withdrawals are usually processed the same business day, but depending on your bank, it may take up to 1–2 working days for the money to show. 24/7 Availability: Your wallet is updated instantly for every successful transaction, even outside banking hours.
